Edward Thompson Breathitt was born in Hopkinsville, Kentucky on November 26, 1924 to Edward T. and Mary Jo (Wallace) Breathitt. He enlisted in the Army Air Force and served from 1942 to 1945 during World War II. Mr. Breathitt graduated with a bachelor's degree in commerce in 1948 and a law degree in 1950.
